The following "talking points" are currently being discussed in the edubloggerworld as a result of initial EduBloggerWorld meetups on August 23, 2007. Join in on these, or add to the list at the bottom of the page. Please follow the standard with the questions being discussed: a wiki page for main discussions, and the standard tag for the discussions. When you create the tag page, please use the template for the standard tags page.

Tagging Standards

Can we or should we promote at least some simple standards to assist classroom teachers in cataloging and finding things? Some teachers are frustrated with the inability to find things easily in their area of interest. Could these standards be used to build one set of resources by feeding information based on that tag into a wiki or simple location that would be easy for beginners to use?

Those discussing this are not thinking to eliminate folksonomy, just to add a standard tag or two to help find things. This was used in the Horizon 2007 report (they tagged things hz07) as a powerful way to harness the research power of many technology visionaries from around the world. To read more about this (and participate in discussions), visit the page for tagging standards on this wiki. (Remember, edits belong on the page, discussion on the discussion tabs.)

Ongoing Facilitation of Conference Presentations and meet ups

Should there be an ongoing method of facilitating presentations between bloggers? Should we create an openly-educator edited system to propose and share on an ongoing basis via wiki where the presenter posts information about the session and people sign up for it in a true-unconference Internet-enabled system? If you want to discuss this, visit the discussion page for ongoing unconference. (Remember, edits belong on the page, discussion on the discussion tabs.) (You may also want to view the page on virtual meet-ups.)

Bringing Beginners into the Forefront of Technology Easily

Global Greeters or Collectively Edited Resources?

The facilitation of easily bringing newcomers into the blogosphere is of concern to many in the educational blogosphere (and beyond.) Creating easy to use resources edited by bloggers themselves for the educational community as a whole is being discussed. Whether it is a video or actual people serving as global greeters to facilitate welcoming events is being discussed. Some guidelines are being proposed for global greeters. If you want to discuss this, visit the discussion page for welcoming beginners. (Remember, edits belong on the page, discussions on the discussion tabs.) (You may also want to view the page on global greeters.)

Calendar Sharing

We've currently created a calendar but are not totally satisfied with the platform and need some to help work out the kinks. It needs to be something that will easy to use, convert timezones (Airset does this), and facilitate the easy addition of other calendars already available via ical or RSS into the system. This may take some technical discussions. The goal is to make available one calendar with free events for educators that anyone with the proper technology can attend in an easy to use, fully compatible resource. A lot of discussion needs to occur here to facilitate this. If you want to discuss this, visit the discussion page for calendar sharing. (Remember, edits belong on the page, discussions on the discussion tabs.)

Proposed Talking Points

Propose your talking point here, please follow the standard above of discussing a brief outline of the issues and whys. Then, create a talking points page using the talking point template created for you and a tagging standard using the tag template created for you. If you are not sure if other educators wish to discuss it, you may want to put your comments on the discussion tab of this page.

Take a look at discussions in the blogosphere and around the world by looking at the edubloggerworld_brainstorm page.
